The goal of this blog is to create a long list of facts that are important, not trivia, and that are known to be true yet are either disputed by large segments of the public or highly surprising or misunderstood by many.
Scandinavian Folklore Guest Post on LatinosUSA
Robbie Cheadle posted my guest post on Scandinavian Folklore on LatinosUSA a wonderful online magazine/blog featuring poetry, stories and all kinds of interesting content from around the world. She also included a wonderful review of my Leonberger book Le Life and Times of Le Bronco von der Löwenhöhle.
My name is Thomas Wikman. I am a software/robotics engineer with a background in physics. I am currently retired. I took early retirement. I am a dog lover, and especially a Leonberger lover, a home brewer, craft beer enthusiast, I’m learning French, and I am an avid reader. I live in Dallas, Texas, but I am originally from Sweden. I am married to Claudia, and we have three children. I have two blogs. The first feature the crazy adventures of our Leonberger Le Bronco von der Löwenhöhle as well as information on Leonbergers. The second blog, superfactful, feature information and facts I think are very interesting. With this blog I would like to create a list of facts that are accepted as true among the experts of the field and yet disputed amongst the public or highly surprising. These facts are special and in lieu of a better word I call them super-facts.

Many thanks for explaining these folkloric creatures, Thomas. An interesting read. My mother was from the UK and I spent a lot of time there while growing up. I was exposed to all the magical creatures that reside there too such as pixies, sprites and elves. According to Celtic tradition the elves were nothing like they are presented today and the pixies and sprites were woodland creatures. And yes, some people still believe in them. It’s amazing the folklore that developed around unexplained events in ancient times!
Thank you so much Lynette. Yes these creatures are different in different cultures and often very different from modern depictions. I have to admit that when I was young I believed in Vittra (Vitter folk) for a while because other people did. Little invisible beings can be scary even though they are small.
Very nice article with your explanations of all the different creatures in folklore and what they do or represent. … I do remember you posting about your trip, and the Hulder, I think that’s the one, luring people to take her photo, now just a thing for the tourists. haha 🙂
Thank you Barbara and yes you are right. You have good memory. I took my oldest son and his wife on a trip to Sweden and Norway. That was back in September/October 2024.
A wonderful post Thomas, one I enjoyed, learning so much about your homeland Myths and Legends… May I take this opportunity in wishing you a very Happy New Year… xx
